Architect, Urban Designer

Dan is a Registered Architect (UK) and Urban Designer, with twenty- three years of experience in planning, design, and management of projects in Asia, Middle East, and the US. Representative projects include regional, tourism and mixed-use master plans in China, new towns in Morocco and Dubai, urban regeneration and residential estates in Singapore, mixed-use, tourism, and medical facilities in Dubai and Kuwait, arts and university and office campus projects in the United States.

He first studied architecture at Ion Mincu University, Bucharest, before being awarded an EU Tempus Scholarship to finish his studies at the University of Nottingham. Following six years of practice in Singapore, he conducted post-graduate research at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) focusing on urban design in the Balkans and the Middle East. Most recently, he has served as Visiting Scholar at the Institute of Urban and Regional Development at UC Berkeley.

After Nottingham, he joined Singapore’s Housing Development Board, government developer of the country’s Public Housing Estates. There, as a Lead Architect, he designed and oversaw the completion of several high profile projects, including Marine Terrace Breeze Estate Regeneration that won the Asian Habitat Society’s Green Habitat Award for Best Planning and Design Practice.

In Boston, Dan joined MIT Professor Michael Dennis to work on academic buildings, at Ball State University and Princeton University. At CBT Architects, he worked as Senior Designer on Axinn Center, Middlebury College, which won the Society of College and University Planning’s Excellence in Architecture Award, and as Project Architect on Foster + Partners Boston Museum of Fine Arts addition and restoration. He then joined TRO Jung | Brannen, working on numerous international mixed-use projects, such as Amwaj New Town, Morocco (with Professor Jan Gehl as Consultant), on medical districts and hubs in Kuwait and Singapore, and managed clients’ coordination in Dubai.

In China, he was appointed Urban Design Director at AECOM, leading teams in Shenzhen and Chongqing offices, before being appointed Design Director at IBI Group in Shanghai. At both firms, he led the design of numerous regional master plans, new towns, large urban mixed-use, tourism and hospitality projects, working with both, developers and local governments.

On his return from China, Dan joined Foster + Partners as an Associate in 2014, currently working as a Designer, and Site Structures Coordinator on the Apple New Campus Project in Cupertino. Most recently, he has started working on the California High Speed Train Vision Master Plan.
